Sintok, 12 March 2026 – Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), through the College of Law, Government and International Studies (COLGIS), has welcome a total of 43 new postgraduate students for the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic session (A252).

Out of this number, 11 students have enrolled in Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes, all of whom are local students. Meanwhile, other 32 students are pursuing in Master’s degrees, which 29 of them is a local students and 3 international students. With the presence of the international students, its indirectly enriches the academic community with diverse cultures, experiences, and global perspectives.

Following a directive from the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International) for the March 2026 intake to be conducted online, the registration session was held online on 11 March 2026, while the academic briefing session took place online on 12 March 2026. The briefing session was further enhanced by a welcoming speech delivered by the Dean of the Ghazali Shafie Graduate School of Government (GSGSG), Prof. Dr. Rusdi Omar.

In his speech, the Dean expressed his appreciation and congratulated the new students for choosing UUM as their destination for postgraduate studies.

“Your admission to UUM COLGIS marks an important step in your academic and professional journey. Here, you will not only be trained to become critical thinkers and high-quality researchers, but also leaders with integrity. Make full use of this opportunity to build academic networks, enrich your experiences, and appreciate the cultural diversity that strengthens our university community. Indeed, your success is not only personal, but also a contribution to society and the nation,” he said.

He also emphasized that the period of study at UUM is not only a platform for acquiring knowledge, but also a space for students to explore new experiences, take responsibility for their learning, and appreciate cultural diversity through meaningful connections with peers from various backgrounds.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Dean of the Ghazali Shafie Graduate School of Government, Associate Professor Dr. Abd. Rahim Romle, delivered a briefing on the academic journey to all new students.

In addition, the new students were given early exposure to the university’s facilities and academic support services. Mdm. Noorfauziati Mat Yatim from the Sultanah Bahiyah Library (PSB) shared information on library facilities, reference collections, and services provided. Meanwhile, Mr. Mohd Solehhuddin Ab Mutalib from UUMIT provided an explanation on the use of the UUM Portal as the main platform for academic and administrative management.

This registration and briefing mark the beginning of a promising academic journey filled with challenges and opportunities for UUM COLGIS postgraduate students, in line with the university’s vision of becoming a leading institution in management and leadership at the international level.
